A couple of years ago, the Place du Grand Marché became the "Square of the Monster" in the vocabulary and everyday life of Tours's residents (the official name is still Grand Marché). Installing the monstrous huge statue by the artist Xavier Veilhan first sparked anger and protest for being too out of place in the middle of the city's old town. But now it's part of the landscape. In this square, in the heart of old town, 2 minutes from the famous Plumereau, you can find anything from food to relaxation. There are three kebab restaurants for a cheap snack (menus starting at 5 euros), but also one of the many pizzerias (I recommend "Ile aux Pizzas" or "Milano Pizza "in the corner of the square) for the unbeatable price of 2 for 1.
