The Mill Network at Kinderdijk-Elshout

Poco lontano da Rotterdam, nei Paesi Bassi, è visitabile una rete di mulini a vento tipici olandesi. Kinderdijk può essere raggiunto in macchina o per chi volesse provare lo spirito olandese, anche in bicicletta. Personalmente sono partita da un paesino vicino a Rotterdam e ho pedalato attraverso la pianura fiamminga finché non mi sono imbattuta nel primo mulino a vento: uno spettacolo entusiasmante! Dopo il primo sono seguiti gli altri, sparsi nel verde e di una bellezza davvero unica. Un mulino era anche visitabile all'interno: una costruzione molto piccola e verticale, dimora all'epoca del mugnaio e la famiglia. Infatti in epoche precedenti, questa rete di mulini era molto utile perché monitorava il livello dell'acqua, cercando di evitare le frequenti inondazioni che colpivano il Paese. Il paesaggio è davvero meraviglioso: i mulini sono suggestivi, i corsi d'acqua cristalline, le chiuse e il verde dell'erba creano un'atmosfera da favola. Consiglio fortemente una gita!

Not far from Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, visited a network of traditional Dutch windmills. Kinderdijk can be reached by car or for those wishing to try the spirit Dutch bicycle. Personally I went from a small town near Rotterdam and I cycled through the Flemish plains until I came across the first windmill: an exciting show! After the first was followed by others, scattered in the woods and a unique beauty. A mill was also visited inside: a very small and vertical construction, dwelling at the time of the miller and his family. In fact, in earlier times, this network of mills was very useful because it was monitoring the water level, trying to avoid the frequent floods that hit the country. The landscape really wonderful: the mills are beautiful, crystal clear streams, the locks and the green grass create a fabulous atmosphere. I would strongly recommend a trip!

Abbiamo avuto la fortuna di visitare Kinderdijk con quasi tutti gli antichi mulini in funzione. Abbiamo raggiunto il luogo da Rotterdam con il bus e abbiamo visitato i mulini su un battello, a scelta tra crociera con fermate lungo il percorso o senza interruzioni di circa 30 minuti. Il costo del biglietto è di 5.50 €. La visita a piedi o in bici è gratuita.

Decisively touristy place but well worth a visit. We were lucky to visit Kinderdijk with almost all the old mills running. We reached the place from Rotterdam by bus and we visited the mills on a boat, chosen from a cruise with stops along the way or without interruption of about 30 minutes. The cost of the ticket is 5.50 €. Walk or bike tour is free.

I mulini sono il simbolo dell’Olanda e questi, oltre ad essere sparsi qua e là un po’ per tutto il Paese, creano un importante rete a Kinderdijk, località a pochi chilometri da Rotterdam. Questa rete di mulini soprattutto per l’ambientazione circostante ricca di verde, laghi, un ponte e gelaterie. Alcuni mulini sono anche visitabili all’interno, e una volta entrati si possono anche fare delle foto.

The mills are the symbol of Holland and these, in addition to being scattered here and there a bit "for the whole country, create an important network in Kinderdijk, a town a few kilometers from Rotterdam. Sono rimasto senza parole, senti ed apprezzi la tradizione potendo visitare due dei mulini all’interno e conoscere la storia del posto.

During my stay in Amsterdam I spent a whole day at Kinderdijk. I was left speechless, feeling and appreciating tradition by being able to visit two of the mills inside and learn about the history of the place.
