The Mercat Cross
Like many other parts of Scotland, the Mercat Cross marks the former location of the commercial area, in this case the village of Culross. The mythological figure of the unicorn lies on top of the monument, alluding to Scottish history. Under the figure the coat of arms is shown. This indicates that it was built in the sixteenth century or so. The cross is located between the town hall and the old abbey and church, marking the busiest and most important road in days gone by.
