Historic Botanical Garden
On pristine Biscayne Bay you will find a historical botanical garden known as The Kampong. Once the home and personal garden of famed horticulturalist David Fairchild, this beautiful garden is now on the national registry of Historic Places and is worth a visit.
David Fairchild spent many of his years visiting countries and areas such as Asia, the South Pacific, Dutch East and West Indies, South America, Egypt, Ceylon, China, Japan, the Persian Gulf, and East and South Africa in search of the most interesting plant species he could find. In total, Fairchild introduced over 30,000 species to the US, some of them viewable at The Kampong. Some of the many varieties of plants at The Kampong include Fruit Trees, Palms, Flowering Trees, Ficus, Androids and Bamboo. This is a great place to experience many new species and view the home of David Fairchild.
