The Island of Texel

When you get to Texel, in Northern Holland, you discover what a polder is. From Amsterdam there are many routes that head north. Even if you have not booked yourself onto a trip before leaving home, once there you can. With regards polder, it's about getting earth from the sea using dykes that little by little dry up because of canals than lift the water using windmills like the ones you find in Texel. Texel is a quiet fishing island, with many sheep and long beaches. When we were there it rained a lot so I took the opportunity to enjoy the Dutch food and drink up some beers.
