the Fountain Of The Mermaid
When I went through the Portuguese town of Tondela, at Easter, I was struck by the famous and beautiful Fountain of the Mermaid, which according to references is the most iconic landmark in Tondela. This dates from the 18th century and tells a legend of the city. The story goes that a woman Maria de la Fuente warned the people of the approach of enemy troops with a trumpet, which is ao tom dela in Portuguese hence the name of the city. The city has other notable monuments in the center, like the Unknown Soldier Monument The Monument At Emigrant, modern art and much more.
