The Citadel

La Ciudadela de Roses es uno de los monumentos mas conocidos de la ciudad. Para visitar este monumento te recomiendo apuntarse a la visita guiada, donde una guía te acercará los detalles mas importantes de este monumento. La visita se hace por un sendero que se recorre la ciudadela en el sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj. La guía te va contando la utilidad de los edificios, donde había unos que servían de granero, otros de vivienda, etc. Lo que mas me gustó fue la iglesia, que estaba semiderruida pero que había sido reconstruida y tenía un aire similar a las iglesias de irlanda que fueron destruidas. Esta fortificación militar tiene como curiosidad que a lo largo de la historia ha recibido diferentes reformas, las cuales las puedes ver en su interior. La verdad es que su interior me pareció monumental, gigantesco. Para finalizar la visita, observamos una zona donde hace siglos, había una zona con casas y pudimos ver la munición que arrojaban los cañones y que se quedaba en el césped hundida. Además, si quieres ver algo mas de la Ciudadela y entender un poco mas su origen e historia, te recomiendo visitar el museo que hay a la entrada. Por otro lado, también te recomendaría ver el Conjunto Megalítico en la parte alta de la localidad y si es verano, puedes disfrutar de la playa que está en frente.

La ciudadela es un recinto fortificado, durante el siglo XI se construyó alrededor del monasterio románico de Santa Maria de Roses. Hay restos de diferentes épocas, una antigua colonia griega y el asentamiento romano hasta a la población medieval. Actualmente están abiertas al público, y a parte de turismo, en su interior se realizan actividades educativas, estudios arqueológicos, conciertos, y durante el verano cine al aire libre. Muy recomendable para pasar una buena noche, eso si, en versión original.
