The Castañera Sculpture

The Castanyera is another urban sculpture that can be seen in the Calle Mayor in Palencia. It was made for ONCE by Daniel Calvo Pérez (blind sculptor Palencia), and donated to the City in 1999. It is a sculpture in bronze that has been placed on a stone pedestal. The image is of an old woman with chestnut coat and headscarf, who is seated on a stool, hunched in front of a stove and she is roasting chestnuts, next to it there is a sack filled with them.
