Adventure through historic town
In the small boulevard Vauban you'll find a concentration of buildings that used to house the hospital and the military barracks. Today, there are a whole host of boutiques, delicatessens, various restaurants and the town hall. The former uses have been transformed giving the village of Mont-Louis a robust architecture for the new activities. Now the buildings give us beautiful pictures through coloured windows (which are sp popular in France). Pots of colours and beautifully laid out streets, where walking is a joy. As a side note, I always appreciate when signs are put up so you know what your are seeing, and a little bit of its history.
If you can't make the guided tours or the tourist information, its easy to figure out where you are. In Mont-Louis, you will find interpretive signs on any monument or landmark. Its not worth the pain to miss strolling down its lovely street, and if you can get carried away by the hidden corners accessed through the vaulted porches of some of the houses ;-)
