Para llegar es necesario recordar que se halla junto al puerto de Huelva y estar muy atento a las señales porque te puedes despistar. Aparcamiento hay de sobra. El Centro de Interpretación es una burrada arquitectónica, debería de haber adoptado una apariencia menos moderna y más medieval. Las exposiciones son interesantes, aunque prefiero la distribución real y no ver piezas sueltas en vitrinas porque se te hace más difícil entender su funcionamiento. A un lado un cine y arriba piezas precolombinas. En la dársena tres reproducciones de las dos carabelas y el galeón. Algunas figuras los decoran así como objetos de uso cotidiano. En la parte exterior algunos indios y un presunto barrio portuario medieval que a mí me pareció un pueblo pesquero de los de toda la vida. Paramos en el bar y seguimos nuestro camino. Aunque las reproducciones son buenas la verdad es que el conjunto no está suficientemente ambientado. Ese edificio delantero mata mucho la ilusión.

Además es chulo poder entrar a las carabelas, aunque se trate de reproducciones.

Se puede entrar en ellas, e incluso bajar a las bodegas, que están totalmente ambientadas con figuras humanas de los tripulantes, almacén de víveres, etc. Es el principal atractivo turístico del lugar, y fueron construidas en 1992, en conmemoración del V Centenario del descubrimiento. -En uno de los laterales del muelle se halla la recreación de un barrio portuario medieval, con su mercado, un alfar, carretas... Normalmente hay gente disfrazada que organiza juegos, especialmente para niños, y a ciertas horas hay talleres de artesanía. -Frente a las carabelas se encuentra la Isla del Encuentro, que intenta recrear qué es lo que encontraron los navegantes al llegar la isla de Guanahani, al otro lado del Atlántico: un poblado típico indígena, con cabañas de madera y paja, estatuas que representan a los habitantes haciendo labores cotidianas (pescar, cocinar), e incluso la fauna (loros, tortugas gigantes, peces...) También hay una cafetería y una tienda. Como curiosidad, mencionar que este muelle ha sido escenario de rodaje de películas como Juana la Loca o Tirante el Blanco, de Vicente Aranda. Además, aquí se recrean a lo largo del año los eventos de: la fecha de partida de los navíos (3 Agosto), su regreso (15 Marzo), y la llegada al Nuevo Mundo (12 de Octubre). Horario: -1 de Octubre a 31 de Mayo: Martes - Domingos: 10:00-19:00. -1 de Junio a 30 de Septiembre: Martes - Domingos: 10:00-14:00 y 17:00-21:00. -Cerrado lunes, y mes de enero.

Aquí encontramos la réplica exacta de las tres carabelas con las que partió Colón hacia las Americas para su conquista. Estas réplicas fueron construidas con motivo de la Expo´92 de Sevilla en los Astilleros Onubenses. Realizaron el mismo viaje que sus trillizas anteriores y ahora están expuestas en La Rábida, justo al lado del Monasterio de la Rábida. En su interior hay un museo y alrededor de las carabelas hay una especie de museo al aire libre donde se exponen indios, cabañas y demás para interactuar y poder realizar fotos divertidas o agradables. Os recomiendo visitarlo, vale la pena. Las carabelas están muy conseguidas.

Ahora son un museo flotante, situadas en una dársena de 11.500 metros cuadrados y a su alrededor se encuentran un Centro de interpretación, un Barrio medieval y la Isla del Encuentro que representa la cultura indígena. La Santa María no es un Galeón, que son barcos del siglo XVII, sino una Nao, una embarcación mercante originaria del Norte de España. En cuanto al puerto de partida de los barcos de Colón, no estaba en La Rábida, sino tres kilómetros río arriba, junto a la localidad de Palos de la Frontera. Me da la impresión que no tivisteis la ocasión de contar con una persona que os diera la información correcta y ayudara a interpretar la importancia de los objetos expuestos en la sala de exposición del siglo XV. Pero si alguna vez volvéis por allí, no dudeis en preguntar por mi. Estaré encantado de hacer lo posible para que os lleveis una buena impresión del lugar. Merece mucho la pena visitarlo.
