Tetuán

The Rif, the spectacular mountain range that runs parallel to the Mediterranean coast north of Morocco, is the mysterious background to Tetouan. The city, called 'La Colombe Blanche', is the natural entrance to the mythical mountains and rugged coastline dotted with coves and inaccessible cliffs. Tetouan is as compelling as its neighbor Tangier due to its strong personality. Capital of the Spanish Protectorate for forty years (from 1913-1956), the city has a fascinating Spanish - Moroccan air that makes it unique. The first thing you'll notice are the dark alleys surrounding the huge Place Hassan II in the heart of the old city, where you will get a familiar smell of fried fish, potato tortilla and paella.
