Temple II

Temple II is situated in the main square of Tikal, where the pre-Hispanic city life once stirred. It is truly a majestic place. As the second temple is badly damaged, you can not climb it, but you can climb the first temple, and it is located just opposite. You can see that in the square, Mayan people still meet up to carry out rituals, burning incense and making offerings to their gods. Temple II is called the Temple of the Masks, or Pyramid of the Moon. It was built in honor of the wife of Hasaw Chaan Kawil, called the Great Jaguar. It was the chief city of Tikal, which helped restore its glory.
