Taufua Beach Fales
The fales are traditional Samoan homes, cottages built on stilts, with palm leaf roofs and no walls. This is useful in the high heat to allow a breeze into the houses. In case of rain, they have a kind of palm leaf roof which protects from rain. Lalomanu suffered an earthquake measuring 8 and a subsequent tsunami in September 2009, which destroyed the town and killed more than 20 people. Taufua Beach Fales was the first resort to open after this and the work they have done is admirable, as the place is nearly operating normally and is filled with visitors from around the world.
