Approximately 7000 years ago (5200 years before Christ), civilization came to the archipelago of Malta from Sicily in rudimentary boats and settled on the islands of Gozo and Malta. These early settlers brought seeds and domestic animals. They created the first volcanic stone cutting tools with which they carved the stones. At first, they lived in caves but later they began to build villages with huts. However, despite their primitive homes, funeral arrangements were very advanced for the time. The first signs of burials are found in the Skorba population, with figures similar to those found in other Mediterranean areas.
