10 parishes in the municipality of Tarouca
TAROUCA is a municipality in the north of Portugal, belonging to the district of Viseu. There are 10 parishes and it covers an area of about 100 km2, with a population of 9,000. The head of the municipality and capital also called TAROUCA concello and is where the City Council, is a modern and quiet, which also has all amenities: schools, swimming pools, sports center, library, health center, an auditorium, etc.. The city sits in a valley surrounded by hills-like St Helena, Cristo Rey and Alcácima (where in the 15th century there was a castle) - they are great views, and it is linked by Varosela the river, on which there is a Roman bridge.
Part of the path called the Cistercian Vineyards, the landscape is farmland and vineyards, with famous sparkling wine. For heritage of the city center there is the Mother Church of San Pedro, from the 12th century, which combines Romanesque and Gothic styles, and the Pelourinho or Pillory, both declared Property of Public Interest (IPP). It has other shrines and the rions of an ancient fort. Other places to visit in the parishes include: The Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, the Monastery of San Juan de TAROUCA, Ucanha bridge, and the Casa do Paço de Dalvares.
