The typical area of tapas
El Tubois the emblematic zone in Zaragoza to have tapas, it consists of a complex of narrow streets between Alfonso I and Don Jaime I streets. You need a few days to try all the specialities.
But I recommend "La Cueva en Aragón", in Libertad Street number 16; also known as El Champiñón (The mushroom), because this is all it serves. We had them from the griddle, with a little oil, parsley and garlic; and three or four levels on a base of bread.
The next tapa could be in one of the oldest places, opened in 1870, “Bodegas Almau”, with a distinctive decoration on its façade, these days, portraits of celebrities. It has a great choice of wines from many areas. You can have them with any traditional tapa: small ham sandwiches, stuffed peppers, croquettes, cheese, ham or chorizo or some “banderillas”. It is in Estébanes Street 10.
At number 8 in the same Estébanes Street, we found "La casa de las empanadillas", a little place owned by a Lebanese man. You shouldn’t have any doubts about its speciality.
In "Vinos Nicolás" you can have a wine or beer, accompanied by a tapa of good ham and all of this without leaving Estébanes Street. And if you are still hungry, in Candolias Restaurant, among other great portions, you can try very well prepared “migas”.
