Taishan o monte Tai

If you want a true chinese experience, I recommend going up to Taishan which is one of the five sacred mountains of Taoism in China. Several emperors went to the top, even Mao himself. It is full of inscriptions in it's stone, which are much admired by Chinese visitors, and you will find a number of Taoist temples, which is the object of popular fervor. This is often shrouded by persistent fog. One warning is that there are more than 6,000 steps so it is best to go up by bus and then take the cable car.
