Typical Belgian Gastronomy
The Bridge Brasserie Tavern is one of the most famous and recommended restaurants in Ghent. It's in Sint-Baafsplein Square, next to the Cathedral and the NTG Dutch theatre. It's not very big, but it has a very nice terrace on the square. Its varied menu is based on typical Belgian cuisine, so to inaugurate my first day in Flanders, I couldn't resist trying the famous mussels and fries. The mussel season is from July to February, and you can have them with white wine and celery, or with garlic and cream. I ordered mine with white wine and I was surprised when they brought me a 1 kilogram pot of mussels, and a large plate of crispy chips with two kinds of sauces (pink and mayonnaise).
