St. Mary´s Cathedral
The Cathedral of Santa Maria (St. Mary's Cathedral) was constructed for the Catholic community in Sydney in 1868. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Sydney and is in the same place where the first Catholic chapel was built in Australia. The Cathedral is made of the Gothic Revival style and was constructed in limestone evoking the great medieval cathedrals of Europe. This Cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin Mary under the title of Immaculate Mother of God, Christians Amparo. It is situated in Hyde Park, the largest park in the city, which is a very central gathering place for the people of the city on holidays or weekends.
