Lisboa

Lisbon perplexed me with their window-displays. They are incredible and full of design and color. It´s a real delight for the eyes. All you have to do is just walk in and out of a store and enter another to see their wonderful windows, bakeries, tea shops, and tiles last. The medleys of taste and color sometimes left us open-mouthed with admiration and it is still one of my favorite places. One of the things that attracted me about Lisbon was the facades of their houses. They are old with prestige, and most of all, the neighborhoods were charming. No matter what neighborhood, (Chiado, Alto, Alfama or Baixa) they all are worth a minutes to be viewed with a some attention, just like their stores.

Lisbon is huge so be prepared to walk or take the tram. Up to the castle is worth it, because travel a very old area from which there are beautiful views. The top surrounding the castle are ancient, narrow streets contrasting with the wide avenues and squares that are at the foot. It's like a mini village up there. From the Commerce Square have a direct view to the sea. You can sit near the sea on the promenade and even get your feet wet. If you go to Lisbon, allow yourself a day to go to Sintra which is half an hour and worth.

Lisbon is a beautiful city with old buildings that, despite their years and neglect, keep intact the charm of a great European capital. Narrow streets, ups, downs, etc. You''ll need a subscription for the trams if you don't want to end up at the hotel early.
