The Stravinsky Fountain

6 reviews of The Stravinsky Fountain

Very peculiar

The Stravinsky Fountain is located in the heart of Paris, right by the Centre Georges Pompidou, in a square with the same name.

The fountain consists of a rectangular pond with 16 sculptures by Jean Tinguely and her partner (also a sculptor). The sculptures are unusual because they move and many include some form of water (jets, fountains, etc.). The sculptures, which have been painted black, are made of aluminum and many have small electric motors.

The fountain, inaugurated by Jacques Chirac and his wife in 1983, was built in honor of the Russian composer who created some of the most famous ballets in history For this reason, color, movement, and aesthetics of space are the predominate themes of the fountain.

Each sculpture has a name related to the world of art and life. For example, Firebird, Love, Spiral, Elephant, Snake, Frog, and Death, among others.

Modern style

The Stravinsky Fountain (made by Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely) was placed in a park overlooking the entrance to the Georges Pompidou Centre. The fountain has a modern style that is in keeping with the center, which is known for its avant-garde and original forms in Paris.

Fontana moving!

Fontana in movimento!

Located in the square, between the Centre Pompidou and the Church of St Merri, the Stravinsky Fountain was built in 1983 by Swiss artist Jean Tinguely sculptures. Can certainly be considered as the most strange fountain of Parisian villas because of its protagonists that are very colorful sculptures automatic continuous motion, each of which is moving or still water nozzle to create a situation of perpetual motion. Just to mention some characters, there is a snake that spits water from the nose, two lips very red they also throwing water, a treble clef, a colorful species of parrot also on the move! A fountain that sends sympathy!
