St Tomas of the Bananas
The old St. Thomas Bananas was located in a valley in the vicinity of this town, and its evacuation was the result of the government's decision to use topographical formations for construction of a new dam, and then dynamos were added for electricity production. Because of this, the area was intentionally flooded and a new town was founded on the bluff. The old St. Thomas had coffee and fruit orchards but today the only thing you can see above the water level of the hydroelectric dam Miguel Aleman is the tower of the old main church. This has become the main icon of the people. Also, there is a replica of the new town in the main plaza as part of a fountain.
