A historic celebration
The number says it all. 2014 was an anniversary, as on June 23, the people of Stirling celebrated the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn, when King Robert the Bruce won independence for Scotland against the English troops of Edward II. The local government created Stirling2014 with a series of cultural events to commemorate this event. Art exhibitions, whiskey tastings, historical reenactments and more made Stirling the most Scottish city in Scotland for a while! The site of the battle was completely remodeled to celebrate the anniversary.
