Juan Quintana
ends with a spectacular view
The old Sterling jail was composed of cells where they would put up to 24 prisoners (who were all going to be tried immediately in the same building) back in 1844, during the Victorian era. This was later changed in 1888 to a military prison because it was famous for being to harsh.
It has been fully restored but kept as much of it's older elements as possible. This prison has become a sort of virtual museum, where for a few minutes you feel like a Victorian prisoner, experiencing the poor conditions of the time and exploring some of the history of the prison of this city.
The experience is a tad intense so it is not recommended for people with heart disease, who are pregnant or for very young children (there is a different tour for them).
