Statue of Aníbal González

La statue de bronze, érigée en 2011 sur la place d'Espagne, rend hommage à l'architecte Anibal Gonzalez Alvarez Ossario. Elle nous le présente sous les traits d'un petit homme sympathique qui regarde son œuvre avec satisfaction et il y a de quoi. C'est en effet lui qui a élaboré le projet de l'exposition qui vit le jour en 1929. Lui-même avait dû démissionner en 1926 pour raisons de santé (il mourut en 1929) ; certains disent qu'il a démissionné en raison de la dictature de Miguel Primo de Rivera. Son remplaçant fut l'architecte José Cruz Conde. On doit notamment à Anibal Gonzalez le pavillon mudéjar et le pavillon néo-gothique de la place d'Amérique.

E' stato anche molto tempo a Madrid nella capitale dove ha portato avanti diversi studi sull'architettura. In Plaza de L'America sono visibili alcuni suoi progetti di monumenti: Il Museo di belle arti, il Royal Pavillon e la facciata della Capilla del Carmen
