St. Columba's Church of Scotland

The presence of Scottish Presbyterianism in London dates back to the Union of Crowns in 1603. This church is still in use, although it has been rebuilt. The growth of the Scottish community in London led to the need for more churches to accommodate all the people. The original St Columba's was built in 1884, but was destroyed by a bombing raid during the Second World War, on May 10, 1941. It was rebuilt on the same site in 1958, designed by architect Sir Edward Maufe, who also designed Guildford Cathedral.
