St Munchin's

St Munchin's, a church on Saint Nicholas Street, in in old medieval Limerick, near the River Shannon, and the Cathedral of Saint Mary. The origins of the church are in the year of the Treaty of Limerick 1691. Originally, it was called the parish of St Lelia, and moved in 1812 to St Munchin's, a typical Irish name. The church is one of the five original parishes of Limerick, along with St John, St Michael, St Mary and St Patrick. Outside, you can see the tombs of the early Christians in the city. They stopped using it in the late nineteenth century when Mount St Laurence Cemetery opened. The oldest grave that is from 1735.
