Tallest bell tower in the region
La Tour Saint Michel was built between 1472 and 1492, on the old ossuary parish cemetery of Saint Michel. Crowned by an arrow, higher than 114 meters, it is the tallest bell tower in the region. The first tower was destroyed by lightning, then an earthquake and finally by a storm! The architect Paul Abadie rebuilt it between 1861 and 1869. The stairs lead to a platform overlooking the city, 50 meters high. In the crypt placed there at the end of the eighteenth century, mummified people, the stuff of myth and stories were laid. Now they are in the cemetery of the Chartreuse. Open daily from 14-19 and the mornings from Tuesday to Friday.
