Alfonso Navarro Táppero
A notable church
Located in the city centre, just behind the well-known Bryggen, the church of Mariakirken is notable for its two powerful, slender towers that dominate its main facade, and are visible from almost any point of this beautiful city. It dates back to the twelfth century (1130), and is a basilica church with a nave that rises to a greater height than the two aisles, from which it is separated by arches supported by pillars. Inside is the Baroque-style pulpit, where you can see representations of the virtues. It is the oldest, and best preserved building in Bergen, so it's worth visiting.
