St. John's Cathedral

The Cathedral of San Juan was originally a Gothic Mazovian church whose construction ended in the fifteenth century. San Juan went from being a parish church to a cathedral in 1798. It was destroyed during World War II, was rebuilt in its original style and today is one of the greatest Gothic works of Wit Stwosz. In 1764 the cathedral was the setting for the coronation of the last Polish king (Stanislaus II) and the oath of the Sejm (Polish parliament) after the 1791 Constitution. The covered bridge that reaches the Royal Palace was built in the wake of the attempted assassination of King Sigismund III.

It claims to be the oldest church in Warsaw. At Easter the queues to see the exposition of the Blessed almost reach the castle! Crazy! Open Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 2pm-6pm and to visit the crypt every day 10am-1pm and 3pm-5:30pm.
