A Gothic Belfry
The Tower of Santiago (Saint-Jacques) is a separate building in the gardens of the square of the same name, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, near rue de Rivoli, Victoria Avenue and Boulevard de Sebastopol. This Gothic style belfry was erected 1509-1523 and is the only remnant of the church of Saint Jacques de la Boucherie, destroyed in 1797. The statue of Blaise Pascal, adjacent to the base of the tower, recalls the story of this physicist performing experiments showing the weight of air. Today the bell tower is surrounded by a beautiful garden, ideal to rest and recuperate after a the visit to Ile de France and its most famous landmark - the Cathedral of Notre Dame.
