El Hospital de San Agustín es uno de los edificios con más historia de todo El Burgo de Osma ubicado en pleno centro de la villa como es la [poi=713891]Plaza Mayor[/poi] y mirando frente por frente a la [poi=712761]Casa Consistorial o Ayuntamiento[/poi].
Sus orígenes provienen de la huerta de Nuestra Señora del Espino, a las afueras del casco histórico, siendo fundado este primer Hospital de San Agustín en el año 1468 por el obispo Pedro García de Montoya con motivo de acoger peregrinos y enfermos. Aunque el actual edificio que hoy en día podemos contemplar fue levantado por los maestros Ignacio Moncaleán y Pedro Portela en el año 1701.
Para mi las 2 cosas que más valor tienen de todo el edificio es su fachada, donde aparece el escudo de armas de su fundador el Obispo Montoya con el nicho de San Agustín, titular del Hospital y su patio central compuesto por 2 pisos de arcadas, recordándome un poco el estilo de la [poi=710581]Universidad de Santa Catalina[/poi].
En la actualidad este Hospital de San Agustín es empleado como Biblioteca, Aula de Arqueología, Centro Cultural, realizándose en el exposiciones y además su capilla acoje a la [poi=710571]Oficina de Turismo[/poi] de El Burgo de Osma. Además destaca su relevancia ya que en el año 1999 fue declarado Bien de Interés Cultural en la categoría de monumento.
En mi opinión merece muchísimo la pena su visita, ya que muchas personas sólo aprecian el edificio exteriormente sin saber que también su interior es visitable.
The Hospital of St. Augustine is one of the most historic buildings around El Burgo de Osma located in the heart of the town is the Plaza Mayor and looking straight on in front of the Town Hall or City Hall. Its origins come from the garden of Our Lady of Hawthorn, just outside the old town, having been founded the first Hospital of St. Augustine in 1468 by Bishop Pedro Garcia Montoya on the occasion of welcoming pilgrims and patients. Although the current building we see today was built by teachers and Pedro Ignacio Moncaleán Portela in 1701. For me the two things that have value around the building is its facade, showing the coat of arms of its founder Bishop Montoya to the niche of St. Augustine, head of the Hospital and its central courtyard consists of two tiers of arches reminding a bit the style of the University of Santa Catalina. At present the Hospital of St. Augustine is employed as Library, Classroom Archaeology, Cultural Center, performing at exhibitions and also its chapel welcomes both the Tourist Office of El Burgo de Osma. It also highlights their relevance and in 1999 was declared of Cultural Interest in the monument category. In my opinion it really worth a visit, as many people only appreciate the building externally without knowing also be visited inside.
