The bell tower, 54 metres high, was part of the ancient abbey of Saint Aubin, which housed the saint's tomb from the year 550. During the sixth and seventh centuries, the funeral basilica became a monastery. The tower dates from the twelfth century, and its austere, gothic architecture fits its use as a watchtower. The abbey was destroyed in 1811, and today only the tower remains.
