The hidden treasure of Amalfi
The patron saint of the town of Amalfi is Saint Andrew, an apostle who had evangelized Greece and Russia, and died crucified at Patras. His remains were taken across the world to reach Amalfi on the 8th of May, 1208. Inside the crypt there is a beautiful fresco by Aniello Falcone depicting the event. The tomb is below the altar, covered with a heavy marble slab, and on the slab is a phial containing the Manna, a thick liquid that appears to be 750 years old. The Baroque-style crypt dates back to 1600, and features a large bronze statue of St Andrew. Wonderful artwork.
