Splashes of Copenhagen to our air
Let me share my experience, as it might be useful for those of you who've been thinking about taking a cruise in Copenhagen. The trouble with such a pretty town like this one is that you don't get a good chance to see very much from a cruise, unless you fork out for one of the official excursions. In this case, the ship docked at 7:00, and the plane was due to leave at 15:30. Despite the airport being very close, we were told we should leave at 11:30 to get there, so the tour was only two hours long. And be careful - the process of the ship docking and clearing customs which, in other ports, takes about fifteen minutes, here can last for hours.
My solution? Eat breakfast at 7:00, and get out ASAP. It takes about thirty minutes of walking through a fairly ugly area to get to the Little Mermaid statue, and a little further on you'll find the first pleasant surprise, St Alban's. Continue straight towards Amalienborg, a beautiful square with a stunning marble basilica, and then to Rosenborg castle and its two bronze lions. Then turn towards the Nyhavn canal, the most famous of the city's waterways with its beautiful bridge and colorful houses. Past that you can see the courtyards and squares of Christiansborg, then on to Kongens Nytorv, a large square, and Strøget, a pedestrian avenue (the largest in the country), where you can buy souvenirs (although they're not cheap!). Finally, you can get to the train station and take a 15-minute train (5 euros) to the airport.
