Paradise on Earth
Srebarna Nature Reserve is 15km west of Silistra, Bulgaria. It is located in the Póntica route, the main path for migratory birds travelling between Europe and Africa and on the south bank of the Danube River is the main habitat of the Crespo pelican, a species which faces extinction. It covers an area of 600 hectares and extends around a protected area of about 540 acres of wetlands, where you can find more than 179 nesting species of birds, 39 species of mammals, 21 species of reptiles and amphibians and many species of fish. It is a welcoming place for many other species of animals, whose survival is in danger in other parts of the world.
In this reserve 9 winged species have been saved from extinction , as well as another 7 that were about to disappear from the whole of Europe. There are over 3000 species of flora and fauna that thrive in this incredible spot which highlights the beauty of nature. Its trails and special platforms offer visitors the ability to approach other birds and animals without disturbing their tranquility or altering their natural lifestyle or habitat. At the side of the river there now stands a museum that displays the evolution and biodiversity of the reserve. Direct observation of life that develops in Srebaran is impressive and attractive so that you do not miss the opportunity to observe this earthly paradise.
