Srah Srang

Uno de los lugares más bonitos fuera de las murallas de Angkor Thom y Angkor Wat. Una de las propuestas que te hacen los guías y los tuk tukeros es levantarte muy muy temprano para ver los magnífcos amaneceres que se contemplan en Angkor. Probablemente el mejor lugar para contemplarlo es el lago de Srah Srang. El Lago del Amanecer es un lugar precioso aunque fué construido excavando por lo que es artificial. Esto no quita para que sea de extrema belleza contemplar las vistas desde este lugar. Un espacio abierto rodeado de vegetación donde puedes ver el cielo abierto y contemplar la salida y también la puesta del sol. Esta ubicado muy cerca del templo Banteay Kdei y tiene una extension de 700 por 300 metros por lo que es un lago de forma rectangular. El mejor lugar para contemplar las vistas es desde su balcón presidido por dos estatuas de leones contemplando el lago. También adviertes la presencia de otras esculturas en forma de serpiente (Naga) en el mismo lugar. Dicen que en temporada seca, cuando el caudal es menor se puede contemplar justo en medio del lago los restos de un antiguo templo aún sin identificar. Tampoco se conoce el sentido de este lago, algunos piensan que era lugar de celebraciones, otros piensan que era un lugar de abastecimiento y baño. Lo que si es cierto que hoy día si se utiliza y puedes comprobar como multitud de niños alivian el calor intenso dándose un baño en las preciosas aguas del Lago del Amanecer. Un saludo a todos

Está bastante céntrico dentro de lo que es la zona arqueológica, se pasa por delante para ver templos que son de obligada visita como Ta Phrom, Ta Keo. Fue excavado en la segunda mitad del siglo X por iniciativa de Kavindrarimathana, ministro Rajendravarman II. Posteriormente, sobre el año 1200, fue modificado por Jayavarman VII, quien agregó el embarcadero de su lado oeste, mide 700 por 350 metros. Es una gran terraza, y a los lados unas balaustradas con nagas, en la mitología hinduista, los nagas son un tipo de seres o semidioses con forma de serpiente. Hay unas escaleras que servían para bajar con comodidad al lago. En cuanto al significado del lago, unos piensan que era un lugar en el que se hacían ceremonias de purificación, otros que servía como lugar de baño y abastecimiento de agua.
