La fontaine de la place Jean-Cornet est particulièrement symbolique pour la ville de Besançon, en effet, elle arbore l’une de ses principales devises, « Utinam », ou « plaise à Dieu », révélatrice de l’influence de la communauté jacobine aux alentours du Doubs. La fontaine elle-même est parée de chérubins, de fruits et d’autres éléments qui renvoient aux notions les plus basiques d’opulence. L’imposant monument est venu remplacer la précédente fontaine qui fut détruite lors de la Révolution.
Fountain Place Jean-Cornet is particularly symbolic for the city of Besancon, in fact, it boasts one of its main currency, "Utinam" or "God willing", revealing the influence of the Jacobin community around the Doubs. The fountain itself is adorned with cherubs, fruits and other items that refer to the most basic notions of opulence. The imposing monument has replaced the previous fountain was destroyed during the Revolution.
