Where Marx and Orwell spoke
This curious institution has survived not only historical Whig and Tory governments, as well as modern Conservative and Labour regimes, for over a century and a half, but also the advent of the Internet, which should, in theory, have made it obsolete. Instead the tradition of improvised political speeches made at the northeast corner of Hyde Park, near the Marble Arch, continues today. In the past speakers included luminaries like Karl Marx and George Orwell. Nowadays, the speakers may not have the same pedigree, but it's still a haven for freedom of expression.
