Ancient Comedy Central
The quality and quantity of the plays represented in a city say a lot of its culture and artistic interests. Madrid can boast in this aspect, since it offers a wide range of possibilities for those who love the theater, such as me.
Every time I can, I come to Madrid to enjoy this beautiful art form, and the Teatro Español (Spanish Theater) is a place of reference. With an incredible history of more than 400 years, it began as an open space theater for comedy (many great playwrights opened their plays here) and it has evolved alongside Madrid’s history.
Its location is perfect: on Santa Ana Square, in the heart of Las Letras neighborhood. It has something to offer to every taste, and above all, its beautiful architecture gives the square a touch of culture and distinction. If you don’t feel like seeing a play, you can have a guided tour for three Euros, where they show you the most emblematic spots in the building and share with you a few of its secrets.
