On the island of Java in Indonesia, 60 kilometers east of Yogyakarta, sits this island. Yogyakarta is an important cultural center, where kids get to spend years studying traditional dance, and fine arts. It was the former capital of Java, and it tells the cradle of Javanese culture. In Indonesia, it can be expensive or a little more expensive to take a place, so when you go from island to island you can avoid wasting time by waiting for boats or for buses. There is an airport where you can reach Bali or other islands. The bus terminal is somewhat far from the center of the city, but nonetheless, it is well connected to other cities.
The annual festival is held in the month of June, and during this time, you can attend dance shows, and traditional concert shows. The city is actually called Surakarta but you can only tell where the region is. It has two palaces, but they have become museums, sultans no longer live there. A palace within Kasunanan could attend a dance. It is very refined Indonesian dance, and women have much grace and delicacy to reproduce ancestral gestures. The city is also famous for its Batik, Indonesian fabric that you can buy on the market of Pasar Klewer. Be sure to negotiate if you are trying to buy the fabric!
