Solar dos Calaínhos
Solar dos Calaínhos is a house in Praça da Sé, opposite the Church of the old Cathedral and the cross. It's a 2-storey house from the sixteenth century, the ground floor is occupied by businesses and it has multiple top floor balconies with wrought iron railings and granite recercados framing the openings. The central balcony has the coat of arms Sarmentos, Pimentéis, Morais and Ferreiras. It was owned by General João Sarmento Pimentel, nicknamed Calaínho because he used the passage of Calais (in France) with his troops during the Seven Years' War (in the eighteenth century).
