Hike to a pristine subalpine lake
This hike is located in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, part of the South Cascades area of Washington. Soda Peaks Lake actually has two trails that lead to it; a moderate 4.5 mile hike from the west (starting at Soda Peaks Trailhead) and a more difficult 8 mile trail from the east. We opted for the hike which begins at the Soda Peaks Trailhead. The hike starts out easy but gets more challenging as you begin climbing uphill. It has a total elevation gain of 1270 ft, leaving you feeling a bit winded in parts. However, climbing both a steep hillside and the ridge which surrounds the basin of the lake makes for some awesome views of the Mt.
