What an experience! A sleeper train is one whose seats convert to beds, and it must be said that travelling in India is an experience only fit for true travelers. Distances are huge, delays are very common, the network is chaotic, and there's often zero information on display in stations. However, the railway network is wide and well-connected, linking most major cities. The sleeper train is a good way of saving money on a night in a hotel if you're travelling a long distance. I took several, the longest from Varanasi to Gorakhpur. Sleeper cars are divided into compartments of nine beds in rows of three.
