Sky Tower

The Sky Tower is the most visited tourist monument in the city of Auckland. This gigantic, 328m tower was inaugurated in 1997. It stands in the city centre, the highlight of a huge tourist complex called Skycity. This area includes a hotel, restaurants and a casino. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Auckland and its surroundings from the viewing platform 222m high. Like the Eiffel Tower, the Sky Tower changes the colour of its lights for certain celebrations, eg red and gold for the Chinese New Year, green for Saint Patrick or blue to support local rugby team Auckland Blues.
