Skutustadagigar Pseudocráteres

We went to explore the area of Lake Mývatn. This volcanic lake is in the Northeast part of Iceland. More than 2300 years ago loud explosions in several parts formed what is now the Lake Mývatn. It is powered by water rich in nutrients and has a very unique biodiversity. The Mývatn Icelandic word meaning "ums Lake" by the thousands that are in summer here. In the local language "Mý" means fly and "Vatn" lake. Most waterfowl feed on those types of insects there, making the lake a great attraction for bird-watchers. We started from Akureyri. Halfway down is the waterfall Godafoss (or waterfall of the Gods).

After visiting this spectacular waterfall we traveled. Already on Lake Mývatn, the first thing we visited was Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters is a volcanic area in the Myvatn lake (north of Iceland) near the village of Skutustadir. These types of volcanic formations are almost only seen in Iceland. There are plenty of signs, making it an easy walk.

Formations resulting lava

And as this, there are thousands across Iceland.

Good bird watching spot.

Buen punto de observación de aves.

Excellent
