Sint Jacobo

Recorriendo todo lo que podía en los días en que estuve en Amstedam, que no fueron muchos y a la que me agradaría regresar, me encontré en una pilastra en la ochava de una antigua casa del siglo XVII, en la esquina de Nieuwezjds Voor (Burgwal) y Sint JacbsStraat con una imagen de piedra de San Jacobo o Santiago el Mayor (hijo de Zebedeo) y hermano de San Juan Evangelista. San Jacobo o Santiago fue el primer mártir que fuera mandado matar por Herodes, y era uno de los doce apóstoles de círculo más íntimo de Jesús. Sint Jacobo es quien también le da el nombre al Hotel que se encuentra allí mismo y a la callejuela lateral, lo encuentras andando apenas unos 5 minutos de la Estación Central de Trenes de Amsterdam. Además es una de las tantas estatuas religiosas que se descubren diseminadas por toda la ciudad, cuna de famosos como pintores e intelectuales como Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt, Descartes y Ana Frank entre otros. San Jacobo es también el Santo Patrono de España, es el Santo patrono de los peregrinos y del famoso Camino de Santiago de Compostela.
