Cheaper and more beautiful
Sibiel is a little over an hour from Sibiu. It's at a crossroads along the main road from Sibiu to Sebes, at the height of Orlat. You have to go through a field, not far from the main road, and then you enter a very rural area where people live off the land and livestock. The locals, though they aren't very famous, have lots of private guest homes. You can live with a Romanian family that has one or two rooms to rent and they usually prepare dinner. It's a cheaper and more beautiful accommodation than hotels. Sibiel is famous for its small Orthodox church, beautifully decorated, and its museum of religious icons, which is next to the church.
5 kilometres away is the Foltea Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
