Shiva Temple

It is one of the largest temples in Kanchipuram city, occupying an area of 12 hectares. It was built during the reign of the Pallava (between the 6th and 8th centuries) and later was expanded under the reign of the Chola. It is dedicated to Shiva and Parvati. The large 5 notable runners have 1000 pillars and the walls are adorned with over 1000 limgams (in Hindu religion it is the representation of Lord Shiva) in the central courtyard of this temple is a mango tree which legend tells us is 3500 years old.
