A Scottish Lighthouse in Brazil

One of the main charms of Ilha do Mel is the Lighthouse of Shells, which is a few minutes walk from Villa de Nova Brasília, along a very nice path where I saw birds of all kinds, up to a small hill where the lighthouse stands. Built in 1870 by a Glaswegian company, it has been in operation since 1872, and uses solar energy today. From the lighthouse you could see the Atlantic Ocean in front, from one side the Praia Grande and Praia de Fora and from the other side the two great beaches of Brasilia and Praia do Istmo, where at their most narrow they almost touch. It really is a view of paradise.

O Farol das Conchas, na Ilha do Mel, é um dos pontos turísticos mais importantes de Paranaguá. Mesmo que não seja possível visitá-lo por dentro vale, você pode subir os 150 degraus para chegar até o topo. As vistas são incríveis, dá para ver toda a Ilha do Mel. A caminhada é grande, mas nada impossível. Somente lá de cima se tem a real noção de como a ilha é linda. Leve água!!

The lighthouse dating from 1872 is not open to domestic visitation, but it is worth climbing the 150 steps and ramps leading to its top. Upstairs, the panoramic view reveals the entire Ilha do Mel. Walking is great, but nothing impossible. Only upstairs has a real sense of how the island is beautiful. Bring water !!
